Travel Portraits: The One Thing Many Photographers Forget

Making a portrait is not just taking a photo of a person and that’s also the case when shooting travel photography. You have to pay attention to a lot of thing if you really want to make a compelling portrait. One thing I notice when I see travel portraits, is that people don’t pay attention to the background. They focus on their subject but don’t realise that a lot of times, the background is what makes the difference between and average and a great portrait.

In my new video, I explain what decisions I make regarding the background when I want to make a portrait of someone. It’s all about balance and knowing what you want to communicate with the viewer.
